Data Analysis Using R Programming

The Research Wise organized an intensive Four-Day Online Workshop on Data Analysis using R Programming, centered on hands-on application with National Family Health Survey (NFHS-5) microdata. Designed for students, researchers, and public health professionals, the interactive program provided end-to-end guidance on transitioning to open-source quantitative analysis—taking participants from foundational R syntax to handling complex, large-scale demographic survey datasets.

Throughout four distinct sessions, participants progressed through the complete R data science pipeline for social and public health research: 1. Environment & Foundations: Participants got comfortable with RStudio, mastering fundamental syntax, data types, operators, and workspace management. 2. Data Management & Survey Handling: Attendees learned to import and inspect real-world microdata, navigating the complex structure and variable formats of the NFHS-5 dataset. 3. Wrangling & Transformation: The workshop covered hands-on data manipulation, including filtering survey records, subsetting observations, and recoding demographic variables for targeted analysis. 4. Statistical Analysis & Visualization: In the concluding phases, learners generated descriptive statistics, cross-tabulations, and clear data visualizations to communicate empirical findings effectively. Key Outcomes Participants established a strong foundation in open-source statistical computing, acquiring the practical skills needed to independently clean, analyze, and visualize large-scale population datasets for academic and policy research.
