Why We Started
The idea for The Research Wise took shape during the COVID-19 pandemic, a period when the world was overwhelmed by uncertainty, rapidly changing evidence, and difficult policy choices. The crisis highlighted the critical importance of reliable data, scientific research, and timely evidence in guiding decisions that affected millions of lives. It also exposed a persistent gap between the knowledge generated by researchers and the evidence available to policymakers. Many important studies remained confined to academic journals, while decision-makers often struggled to access reliable, context-specific evidence.
We recognised the need for an institution that transforms rigorous research into actionable evidence for policy and action. The Research Wise was founded on the belief that the challenges shaping our world, population change, public health, inequality, education, gender equality, climate resilience, and governance, cannot be addressed through assumptions alone. They demand reliable evidence, a deep understanding of local realities, thoughtful analysis, and long-term thinking to inform decisions that create meaningful and lasting impact.
Today, The Research Wise combines scientific rigour with practical engagement to help governments, development partners, academic institutions, and civil society organisations understand not only what is happening, but why it matters and how to respond effectively.

We publish original research, policy briefs, essays, and reports across Demography, Gender & Society, International Trade & Economy, and Public Health. Every submission goes through a structured editorial process: initial review by our editorial team, assignment to one or more peer reviewers, a documented review with clear feedback, and an editorial decision - accept, request revisions, or decline - before anything is published. Authors can track their submission and respond to reviewer feedback at every step.
